The Steamship Authority Terminal is of unique importance to Nantucket and serves as critical infrastructure in its function as access point to supply chains such as fuel and food, as well as waste disposal. The Terminal is both the most essential and most at-risk facility on Nantucket. As early as 2050, both it and the access roads leading to it, especially Broad Street and Easy Street, are vulnerable to frequent flooding and loss of service, and are likely to be impacted by more severe coastal storms before then. Everyone on Nantucket, regardless of where they live or work, will need to plan for and adapt to the impacts of sea level rise on the places and systems that support safety and well-being on the island.
